Introduction to Spinning Yarn
Learn how to create yarn from sheep's wool.
Using replicas of centuries old spinning tools
students will make yarn from roving and fleece
right from the sheep.
All phases of spinning will be discussed and
demonstrated, including a history of spinning,
an overview of various plant and animal fiber,
fiber selection and preparation, and finishing
methods.
Work will be done on drop spindles and
spinning wheels. Students will leave class
with a skein of their own handspun wool yarn,
instructions for making an inexpensive drop
spindle, and practice fiber
No previous spinning experience is required,
all materials are provided. Rental wheels are
available for a small additional charge.
